  1. The flexible configuration lets you tailor any VEDIT Family editor to the
  2. particulars of your computer and "customize" it to your applications, personal
  3. preferences and keyboard layout.
  4.  
  5. The VEDIT editors have two levels of configuration.  Most configuration 
  6. changes can be made inside the editor and can be made permanent by saving them 
  7. directly into the "VEDIT.EXE" file.
  8.  
  9. Less common configuration changes, such as selecting hardware compatibility, 
  10. are made with the configuration program VPCONFIG.
  11.  
  12. The {CONFIG} sub-menu lets you change the Tab positions, "Word Processing", 
  13. "Programming", "File Handling", "Emulation" and "Misc" options.  You can also 
  14. change the "Printing" and "Searching" options.  The {CONFIG, Save into VEDIT} 
  15. function saves the current configuration settings and, optionally, any new 
  16. keystroke macros into the "VEDIT.EXE" file.  Unlike other editors, VEDIT does 
  17. NOT use separate configuration files which slow down invocation.

  19. For example, you could select to have tab positions set to 10, 25 and 30, 
  20. the "right margin" set to column 65 and "justification" enabled.  You can even 
  21. select the character to be displayed at the end of lines (where the <CR><LF> 
  22. is) and the "fill character" used to display Tab characters.  You can select 
  23. the cursor type and cursor blink rate or a non-blinking cursor.

  25. VEDIT can be configured to a wide variety of hardware.  Screen sizes up to 100 
  26. lines and 250 columns are supported.  The colors (attributes) for the status 
  27. line, menus, window borders and text can be selected.

  29. An important feature is the ability to completely determine your own keyboard 
  30. layout - what control or function key you will press to perform each edit 
  31. function.  This demo asks you to press, for example, "<CTRL-F>" to format a 
  32. paragraph.  However, you can assign the [FORMAT PARAGRAPH] function to any 
  33. key.  You can even assign it to two different keys.  The same holds for all of 
  34. the edit functions.

  36. You can start with a keyboard layout we supply, such as the "default", 
  37. WordStar (tm) or Word Perfect (tm) layouts, perhaps modifying them a little. 
  38. Or you can create your own keyboard layout, perhaps using one you are already 
  39. familiar with from another editing/word processing program.

  41. At any time you can add new keystroke macros.  You can enter them directly 
  42. using a special window or have VEDIT record your keystrokes while you edit.

  44. VEDIT PLUS's powerful macro language lets you create your own editing 
  45. functions and assign them to a key using keystroke macros.  A library of 
  46. keystroke macros is supplied which includes "duplicate line", "open line", 
  47. "transpose letters", "word count" and many others.

  49. All configuration parameters, including new keystroke macros, can also be
  50. transferred from one release of the editor to another.
